Views in Ireland and England
Hannah Tighe was an Irish Heiress, whose family owned Woodstock, Co Kilkenny. In 1818 she married Lord Patrick James Crichton-Stuart (1794-1859), second son of the 1st Marques of Bute. A talented amateur, and diligent pupil, she painted watercolours of the Woodstock estate, Mount Stuart House, and South Wales, where Lord Crichton-Stuart was MP for Cardiff. She made a number of trips on the continent. In Italy she took lessons from the young William Leighton Leitch (1804-1883), who later found success as drawing master to Queen Victoria, in Rome while there in the 1830s.
