‘Lioness of Littlehampton’ in the China Sea. Oil on canvas. Inscribed on a paper backing: ‘Mine own will I bring again, from the Deep / of the Sea’ / The barque ‘Lioness of Littlehampton’, Sussex / Owned by the Messrs G and J Robinson / Built by Messrs. J & H.B. Harvey, Littlehampton / 512 tons. Reg. / Lying at Port Louis, Mauritius – 1892 / Vessel lost foremast & rudder in cyclone / on passage to Bombay from Mauritius / Jan. 21st 1893 – The Captain being lost overboard. Vessel got back to Port Louis & was eventually sold to Adelaide, S. Australia / & was trading between Australia & Port Louis / for years afterwards ( also Singapore etc) ‘. Accompanied by an (un-investigated) wooden ships box of documents relating to the Robinson family. 8.25x12 inches. Framed: 10.5x14.25 inches.
