Pencil. Signed. Inscribed ‘Napoleon’s Tomb’ recto, and verso ‘Sketch of the Emperor Napoleon’s tomb / taken in the month of February, 1822’. Also verso (in latin) ‘They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, 
Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms… 
Isaiah 14, v.16-17.’

9x13.5 inches. The sheet: 10x15.25 inches. The 20th Regiment of Foot arrived on St Helena in 1819 and guarded Napoleon. On his death Napoleon's coffin was borne by 12 grenadiers of the Regiment.
