This etching was based on a drawing Rushbury made in 1921, on his first trip to Marseille. ‘Rushbury recounted later that he had spent the whole day working on his drawing, returning the following day to finish it, only to find the bridge was no longer there; it had been demolished.’ (Julia Rushbury, ‘Henry Rushbury Prints, a Catalogue Raissone’, RA 2010, p.90).
